A good few years ago, my boyfriend (now my husband) got me a blank calendar and filled it with lots of great photos of all the places we’ve been. I’m not sure where he got it from, but I’m sure they could be found in art shops or online or you could make your own from scratch. He bought a spare blank one for me cause he thought I would like to make my own handmade art calendar too, so I made one for my parents. I filled it with paintings that had some significance to them and even though it was a few years ago and the calendar is very out of date now, they still have it on their wall.
Some Paintings From My Handmade Art Calendar:
A celtic knot painting inspired by The Book Of Kells, which my mum showed me when I was younger and taught me how to draw the knots.
A pen sketch (with a splash of watercolour) of my parents little wooden elephant ornament. I love doing pen sketches but it doesn’t normally lend itself to colourful art, which I am another big fan of, so this piece is a mixture of two of my favourite styles.
A painting of our lovely old dog called Pippa. She really was the most beautiful, adorable dog ever and this painting doesn’t do her justice at all but I hope I have managed to capture some of her character in it.
One of my favourite animals is the gannet. I used to find it amazing to see them diving into the sea to catch fish-I could watch them for hours. My mum is a brilliantly talented artist and she made a stained glass wall panel of diving gannets…and then I painted a picture of her wall art for the calendar.
